One day left at the countdown
[10 Feb 06]

Here we go. Tonight is gonna be the night of the Official Openings fot these two weeks of Winter Games. I'm glad to notice that this weblog (torino06) is having quite a good success in such a short time, despite of the silence of the national Media about it. While in tv -if you allow me to get into a short polemic- we can see almost only Government spots (and the face of Berlusconi), from the Big Works (?) -the so called Grandi Opere- to the simplified burocracy. Never heard of these things till now that we're close to the elections (next April the 9th).

Well, at one day from the Official Openings, let's take a break from the Electoral Campaign and dive together in this ocean of sports and enthusiasm that the Olimpics are!
(And for once fuck off to the No-Global who will interfer!)

Not only sport
[by Dontyna - 7 Feb 06]

Logo ItalyartOne of the reason that brought most of the people of Turin (and the Italians in general) to purchase the tickets for the olympic races, you know, is part the curiosity, but especially the absolute desire to partecipate and be there in any case, more then the pasison for the winter sports themself. Figure skating apart, as a matter of fact the winter sports are considered a bit "exclusive", not only for the high prices of the equipments in general, but also for the difficult rules and scoring procedure of the matches themself.
But the city prepared two months of theatre shows, concerts, temporary expos and magic literary diners to satisfy those thirsty of culture people not very interested in the Olympics.
The themes go from Ice and Snow (the ssnow show in Sestriere, the exhibition Inuit - Popoli del Ghiaccio, the show Il colore bianco at Parco della Tesoreria) to the classic icons of heroes and athlets and the stories and montain recipes (th efive literary diners promoted by Grinzane-Cavour).
You won't miss famous international artists with extraordinary exhibitions: I point out the concert of the excellent composer Arvo Part per la Sindone, international premiere, the theatre shows of Progetto Domani of Luca Ronconi, and the return of The Bohème at the Teatro Regio of Turin.
A real Cultural Olympic we can say, wich honours the city and the provincia of Turin and the entire team that worked passionally to plan the events.

Here you can find the detailed schedule: Cultural Olimpiad.

[5 Feb 06]

This was Ticket One's (official contractor for Turin Olympics ticket sale) webpage loaded this morning. Too many accesses looking for tickets.
I don't want to insist again on the polemics related to the tickets managing.
Anyway at the moment it seems very hard to get a place for any race whatsoever. Would anybody be interested, I think it's worthy -at 4 days from the beginning- to remember the competition schedule from the Offiicial Website, e the one you can find on Ticket One with all the prices.

Nine Medals. Is it enough?

[by Frittole 3 Feb 06]

According to Sports Illustrated, wich every two years tries to give predictions about the Olympics –and gets usually around the 50 percent right- Italy should get nine medals in Turin 2006, with two golds only: Rocca in the slalom (better if we don’t say a word, I’m superstitious!) Zoeggeler in the luge.
Silver to Bardone in the giant slalom (it’d be great!). Two medals to Piller Cottrer in the 30 km and 50 km freestyle (we have better expectations, we hope for the gold medal). Silver to Simonato and Fabris in the speed skating. Bronze medal also for the men’s medley of the cross-country, and also Oberstoltz e Gruber for the double in the luge. More or less they forgot about Margaglio-Fusar Poli e Karolina Kostner in the figure skating, and they are targeting a medal for sure. Only a silver to Miller in the combined. Gold to Maier in the super-G, and the bronze in the Downhill would go to Walchohfer.
Here you find more.

What do you think?
